The project is backed by GBP 4.5 million of investment from Shell and British Airways, alongside a GBP 434,000 grant from the UK’s Department for Transport (DfT). But plans stalled when government advisory body, Natural England, filed an objection earlier in 2020 over concerns that the development could disturb nearby habitats for rare birds. But now North East Lincolnshire Council has announced that all stakeholders have accepted the plans, with planning permission now granted. Velocys plans to start construction at the site in 2022, and could have the plant up and running by 2025.
