Spanish airport operator Aena has hired Thyssenkrupp AG to upgrade and add to the passenger boarding bridges (PBBs) and moving walkways in three of its most popular airports.

The urban mobility provider has secured contracts with Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD), Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), and Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN). Thyssenkrupp will equip MAD with 42 modern PBBs; the contract also includes the maintenance of 122 PBBs and the refurbishment of another 10. The company will also install 22 moving walkways, two of them at PMI, and has already begun installing 34 glass PBBs at BCN, adding to the 43 PBBs installed in 2008.
